At daybreak, Lake Atitlán is so still that the three volcanoes around it are reflected upside down. A fisherman's boat passes, then everything is motionless again. These are the moments this small-group tour of 18 travellers, part of La Collection, sets out to find in Guatemala and Honduras.
The journey follows the Maya civilisation from one city to the next. Iximché, where ancient rites are still practised. Copán, whose carved stairway bears thousands of hieroglyphs and which you explore right into its tunnels. Quiriguá and its giant stelae. Yaxhá, then Tikal, whose temples rise above the canopy while howler monkeys call from tree to tree. Between the stones, the living: the Tz'utujil artisans of San Juan La Laguna, the merchants of Chichicastenango, the Garifuna of Livingston, a village reached only by boat along the Río Dulce.
Stops last two to four nights, with free days to catch your breath, especially on the shores of Lake Petén Itzá.

Itinerary
Flight to Guatemala City (1 night). Welcome by your guide and hotel check-in in the Zona Viva.
Guatemala City – Antigua (2 nights). The Mapa en Relieve, a large relief map of the country inaugurated in 1905, and the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology. Drive to Antigua and dinner at a local restaurant. (B, L, D)
Antigua. Guided walking tour of the UNESCO-listed colonial town: La Merced church, Las Capuchinas, the Santo Domingo hotel museum, Parque Central and Calle del Arco. (B)
Antigua – Iximché – Sololá – Lake Atitlán (2 nights). Maya site of Iximché, traditional market of Sololá and arrival in Panajachel on Lake Atitlán. (B, L, D)
Lake Atitlán. Meeting with the Tz'utujil artisans of San Juan La Laguna, boat tour of the lake and free visit of San Antonio Palopó and Santiago Atitlán. (B)
Panajachel – Chichicastenango – Guatemala City (1 night). The colourful Chichicastenango market, then drive to the capital. (B, L)
Guatemala City – Copán (2 nights). Crossing into Honduras and check-in in the colonial village of Copán. (B, L, D)
